Abstract

Waste management in rural areas poses a significant challenge that affects both the environment and public health. Kertasari Village, which is developing an independent waste management system, requires an integrated, efficient, and sustainable waste processing facility. This study aims to design a Waste Processing Facility (TPST) in Kertasari Village Tegal using a Sustainable Architecture approach to create an environmentally friendly, energy-efficient building that also supports the community’s social and economic activities. The methodology includes literature review, site observation, functional needs analysis, and a sustainable architectural design approach that considers energy efficiency, water management, use of local materials, and landscape integration. The resulting design presents a TPST that functions not only as a technical facility for processing organic and inorganic waste but also as a center for environmental education and community empowerment. By applying sustainable architecture principles, the Kertasari TPST is expected to serve as a prototype for rural waste processing facilities that are not only functional but also contribute to environmental quality improvement and long-term ecological awareness within the community.
