Abstract
The increasing intensity of social media use among Gen Z in the digital era makes them vulnerable to negative impacts such as hate speech, which can reduce self-awareness and psychological well-being in Gen Z. This study focuses on determining the relationship between hate speech and psychological well-being in Gen Z. Knowing the relationship between self-awareness and psychological well-being in Gen Z. Knowing how the relationship between hate speech and self awareness with psychological well being in Gen Z. This study used 156 subjects in 3 faculties of Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta, namely the psychology faculty of the 2021 class aged 22 and 23, the law faculty of the 2022 class aged 20 and 21, and the geography faculty of the 2023 class aged 19 and 20 using the cluster random sampling method, a sampling technique carried out by selecting samples randomly if the object being studied is very broad. This study uses a quantitative method using a scale distributed through a gform questionnaire as a data collection tool. The data analysis used is multiple linear regression analysis using SPSS software version 30. The results of this study on the major hypothesis show that the hypothesis is accepted because hate speech and self awareness have a significant relationship with psychological well being in Gen Z with a sig value of 0.001 (<0.05), the F test shows a result of 134.562 and the R test shows a result of 0.798. In the first minor hypothesis, the hate speech variable has a negative relationship with psychological well-being as evidenced by the sig value in the t test of 0.001 (<0.05). In the second minor hypothesis, the self-awareness variable has a positive relationship with psychological well-being as evidenced by the sig value in the t test of 0.001 (<0.05).
