Abstract

Adolescent girls are a group that is vulnerable to social pressure, especially in terms of physical appearance. In today's digital era, social media has a major influence in shaping perceptions of body image and self-acceptance which has an impact on individual Self-esteem. This study aims to determine the relationship between perceptions of body image on social media and self-acceptance of Self-esteem in female students of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Karanganyar. The research method used is a quantitative method with a multiple linear regression approach. The sample in this study was 146 female students of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Karanganyar in grades X, XI, and XII who were selected using the cluster random sampling technique. Data collection was carried out through an online questionnaire using three scales, namely the body image scale, self-acceptance scale, and Self-esteem scale. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between body image perception and self-acceptance with self-esteem, as indicated by an F value of 68,006 and a significance value of 0,000 (p < 0.05). The correlation coefficient R was 0.698, indicating that the two independent variables contributed effectively to 48.7% of the variance in self-esteem. Partially, body image perception had a significant positive effect on self-esteem (t = 6,552, p = 0,000) with a contribution of 31.57%, while self-acceptance also showed a significant positive effect (t = 4,034, p = 0,000) with a contribution of 17.16%. Thus, it can be concluded that the more positive an individual's perception of their body, and the higher their level of self-acceptance, the greater their self-esteem as adolescent girls.
