Abstract

Strapping rope fiber which is plastic waste is chosen as an additional material to increase the flexural strength of concrete and reduce plastic waste. This study aims to determine the effect of variations in the width of the strapping rope fiber on the flexural strength of fiber-reinforced concrete. The design flexural strength used in this study is 25 MPa and the addition of strapping rope fiber is 0.5% of the total weight of the test specimen. The width variation in this study uses dimensions of 2 mm, 3 mm and 4 mm. and the length is taken equally to calculate the ratio with a size of 15 mm. From these variations, the flexural strength values of 28-day-old concrete are obtained sequentially, namely 3.10 MPa, 3.77 MPa and 4.07 MPa. It can be concluded that the width of the dimension greatly affects the flexural strength of concrete, and the wider the dimension of the strapping rope fiber has an increasingly increasing impact. However, the flexural strength value in this study no test specimen reached the specified flexural strength. Because the variation in the dimensions of the fiber does not match the ratio recommended by ACI. Meanwhile, the failure pattern of the fiber width variation shows a significant difference. At a width variation of 4 mm, the test specimen experiences brittle failure, where the concrete immediately breaks into two parts. even though the 4 mm width variation produces the highest flexural strength. Meanwhile, the 2 mm and 3 mm width variations do not immediately break because the width variation can reduce the collapse of the concrete and is still held back by the fibers that have been mixed in the concrete.
