Abstract

Background: De quervain tenosynovitis is inflammation of the tendons due to repetitive activity that is often experienced by adult women. This condition causes pain, swelling, and limited mobility. The treatment of de quervain tenosynovitis includes physiotherapy such as deep tendon friction massage (DTFM) and stretching aimed at reducing pain and improving function. Objective: This study aimed to see the effectiveness of giving a combination of DTFM and stretching with efflurage massage on pain and improvement of upper extremity function. Methods: Quantitative research, Quasy Experimental research type with a case series study approach with Pre Test and Post Test Group Design research design.Data collection techniques by means of interviews, observations, and questionnaires. The research instrument used was Quick Disability of Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (Q-DASH) to measure pain and functional activity. In the treatment group, DTFM and stretching were given, while in the control group, efflurage massage was given. The analysis technique uses the analytical descriptive method. Results: Results showed a significant decrease in Q-DASH scores in the DTFM and stretching groups (40.9-53.3 points), indicating functional improvement. The rest of the efflurage massage group only experienced a slight decrease (6.8-13.6 points). Conclusion: the administration of interventions in the form of DTFM and stretching with efflurage massage has the effect of reducing pain and increasing functional activity. There was a significant difference in the effectiveness between DTFM and stretching with efflurage massage in reducing pain and improving functional activity in patients with de quervain tenosynovitis.
