Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of teak sawdust composition with epoxy resin matrix on tensile strength and Modulus Elasticity. The benefits of using Vinyltrimethoxysilane (VTMS) in teak sawdust composites include increasing adhesion to chemical bonds, creating chemical bonds between sawdust and polymer matrix, increasing adhesion between phases, producing more homogeneous composites. The mechanism of action of VTMS involves grafting reactions, cross- linking caused by moisture, increased adhesion, surface treatment, and moisture removal. Increased adhesion produces composites with higher tensile strength. Composites become tougher, resistant to mechanical loads. The particle size of teak sawdust with a certain size ensures homogeneity in the composite. From the data analysis, it was obtained that the amount of VTMS solution affects the tensile strength of a material. Material with 10% grandis linn and 90% resin showed the highest tensile strength of 8.75 MPa with 5 mL of VTMS additive. And in the 30% grandis linn material and 70% resin, there was an increase in tensile strength of 30 MPa with the addition of 5 mL of VTMS solution. The more VTMS solution is given to the material, the higher the tensile strength value will be, teak wood powder is mixed with VTMS solution and stirred to ensure all particles are well coated. The use of VTMS solution as a binder between filler and resin affects the elastic modulus value of the material.
