Abstract

The growing demand for electricity has encouraged the development of renewable energy sources, one of which is micro-hydro power generation utilizing flowing water. This study aims to design and test a Micro- Hydro Power Plant (PLTMH) system using a vertically installed Archimedes Screw turbine on a canal water stream. The turbine is designed to harness low-head water potential, converting it into mechanical energy, and then into electrical energy through a DC generator. Testing was conducted to measure the turbine’s torque and rotational speed (RPM) using a Dynamic Torque Meter (DYN200), while voltage, current, and power on the generator, battery, and load were monitored using INA219 sensors. All monitoring data were displayed via an LCD and a Web Server interface using an ESP32 microcontroller in Access Point mode. The results showed that the system was able to generate electrical power stably, with an average generator voltage of 12.09 V, battery charging power of 10.31 W, and load power of 7.95 W. The monitoring system functioned effectively, enabling real-time observation without requiring an internet connection. In conclusion, the vertical Archimedes Screw-based PLTMH system is suitable for remote areas with limited electricity access. It is recommended to use a screw length of more than 50 cm, as increased length leads to higher torque and RPM, thereby improving overall power output.
