Abstract

A preposition is a category that is located to the left of a noun so that an exocentric phrase is formed to fill the descriptive function in a clause or sentence. One of the prepositions is the preposition at and the preposition to. These two prepositions, although they seem simple, often cause confusion for students. This research aims to analyze preposition errors in- and ke- in the narrative essays of students at SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Surakarta class IX. The method used in this research is a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The data for this research are words that contain the prepositions "in- and "to" in narrative text. The data source for this research is narrative essays from class IX students of the Special Language Program at SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Surakarta. The data collection techniques used in this research are observation and documentation techniques. Researchers used reading, listening and note-taking techniques by reading repeatedly and recording data findings. The data analysis technique used in this research is the agih method. The validity of this research data was checked through theoretical triangulation. The results of this research found 18 errors in the preposition "in" which included errors in (a) indicating the direction of the place (b) indicating the place (c) indicating the media/platform (d) indicating the prepositional phrase (e) inappropriate use. And found 10 errors in using the preposition "to" which include (a) indicating the direction of a place or destination (b) inappropriate use.
