Abstract
Copyright protection for songwriters is a crucial issue in the digital era, especially when their works are used commercially without permission. This thesis discusses legal protection for songwriters based on Law Number 28 of 2014 concerning Copyright, with a case study of commercial use of songs on the YouTube social media platform. The research method used is a normative juridical approach, with analysis of applicable regulations and case studies related to copyright infringement. The results showed that copyright provides legal protection in the form of moral rights and economic rights for songwriters. However, there are still many violations, such as the use of songs without a license for commercial purposes. The Copyright Act provides protection mechanisms through preventive and repressive measures, including criminal sanctions and civil suits. In addition, the Collective Management Institution (LMK) plays a role in collecting and distributing royalties to songwriters. Preventive protection efforts can be done with copyright registration and supervision by the government and LMK. Meanwhile, repressive measures in the form of lawsuits can be taken to enforce the rights of creators. This study suggests the need for stricter law enforcement and increased public awareness of the importance of respect for copyright.
