Abstract

Students are in the stage of adulthood, usually between the ages of 18 and 25. At this phase, which is a transition from adolescence to adulthood, they often face new challenges and also experience biological, cognitive, social, and emotional changes in order to meet academic demands. When students feel unhappy due to academic stress, it becomes difficult for them to cope with these changes and demands. Therefore, students need to have a high level of subjective well-being to create happiness and achieve life satisfaction. This study aims to examine the relationship between interpersonal communication with parents and emotional maturity with students’ life satisfaction. This research uses a quantitative correlational approach involving 167 Psychology students at UMS as respondents, selected using purposive sampling technique. The instruments used include an interpersonal communication scale, an emotional maturity scale, and a life satisfaction scale. The data were analyzed using multiple regression analysis techniques. The results of this study indicate that there is a positive and significant relationship between interpersonal communication with parents and emotional maturity with students’ life satisfaction, with a significance value of p = 0.001, meaning p < 0.05, and an F value of 56.09. This means the higher the interpersonal communication and emotional maturity, the higher the life satisfaction. Furthermore, the relationship between interpersonal communication and life satisfaction showed a t-value of 4.17 and a significance value of 0.001 (p < 0.05), indicating a positive and significant relationship between interpersonal communication and life satisfaction among Psychology students at UMS. Then, the relationship between emotional maturity and life satisfaction showed a t-value of 7.57 and a significance value of 0.001 (p < 0.05), indicating a positive and significant relationship between emotional maturity and life satisfaction among Psychology students at UMS. The effective contribution of the variables in this study is 41%, with the remaining 58.94% influenced by other factors not examined in this study. The implication of this research is that it can support parents and institutions in improving students’ life satisfaction.
