Abstract
TikTok as one of the most popular social media today is widely used by Generation Z teenagers to express themselves. The intense use of TikTok also influences the way teenagers form their self-identity in the digital world. This study uses the Uses and Effects theory which explains that individuals use media to meet certain needs, and media can have an effect on its users. The study was conducted with an explanatory quantitative approach. Data were collected through an online questionnaire distributed to grade 10 students of SMKN 1 Klaten aged 15–16 years. The population was 539 students, with a sample size of 85 respondents obtained using the Slovin formula and purposive sampling techniques. The results of the study showed that the use of TikTok has a positive and significant influence on the formation of self-identity of Generation Z teenagers. From the results of the data analysis test using regression, it was found that TikTok social media had a positive influence on the formation of self-identity by 76.3% while the remaining 23.7% was influenced by other variables.
