Abstract
Employee performance is very much needed for all employees both in the office and in the company. Employee performance is influenced by compensation and work motivation. The purpose of the study was to determine the role of compensation and work motivation on employee performance at the Office X of Surakarta City. The hypothesis of this study is that compensation and work motivation affect employee performance. Compensation has a positive effect on employee performance and work motivation has a positive effect on employee performance. The study was conducted using a quantitative method on 150 employees at the Office X of Surakarta City applying a purposive sampling technique with the criteria of a field employee, a minimum age of 18 years, and male gender. Data collection using employee performance scale tools, compensation scale, and work motivation scale. The results of multiple regression analysis showed a very significant relationship between Compensation and Work Motivation with employee performance in field employees of the Office X of Surakarta City with an F value of 237.712, R value = 0.764, and a significance value of 0.000 (p <0.01). There is a very significant positive role between compensation and employee performance in field employees of the X office in Surakarta City with a value of r = 0.638, β = 0.277, t = 5.917, and p = 0.000 (p <0.01). There is a significant positive role between work motivation and employee performance in field employees of the X office in Surakarta City with a value of r = 0.698, β = 0.841, t = 14.907, and p = 0.000 (p <0.01). The implication of this study is that the X office in Surakarta City needs to pay more attention to work motivation in order to improve employee performance in field employees of the X office in Surakarta City as indicated by an effective contribution of 58.71% and compensation with a contribution of 17.67%.
