Abstract
GTAW welding (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) is a welding process using electric arc heat formed between unfed tungsten electrodes using protective gas. This research aims to describe the micro and macro structure of the haz area, weld metal, and base metal. The method used in this study uses 6061 aluminum with a thickness of 6 mm at a grove angle variation of 90 ° and 120 ° using filler metal type ER-4043 GTAW welding with AC and DCEN welding current polarity with 100A and 120A respectively in microstructure testing using SEM (Scanned Electron Microscope) and in macro testing using a Canon m50 digital camera. The results obtained in macro photo testing are that the greater the groove angle used, the greater the dimensions of the resulting weld area, in AC polarity there are porosity defects that occur when gas is lifted in the weld metal in the form of bubbles, in DCEN polarity there are several welding defects that occur because oxides are trapped on the surface of the weld metal so there is no positive ion bombarding action. SEM (Scanned Electron Microscope) testing shows that the greater the Groove angle and current strength used, the more Mg_2 Si grains are produced in the weld area.
