Abstract

The development of digital technology has driven the increasing use of social media, including YouTube, as a platform for sharing information and entertainment. One of the emerging phenomena is the practice of clickbait, namely the use of misleading titles to attract the attention of the audience. This practice has the potential to harm users by providing information that does not match the content. This study aims to analyze the motives of perpetrators in using clickbait and examine legal protection for parties who are harmed by clickbait content. The research method used is normative with a legislative and literature approach. The results of the study show that the main motive for using clickbait is to increase the number of views and revenue from advertising monetization. Although there are no specific regulations, this practice can be subject to sanctions under Law Number 1 of 2024 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions (ITE), the Criminal Code (KUHP). Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen regulations and supervision of clickbait practices in order to protect the rights of social media users.
