Abstract
The development of information technology nowadays has a positive impact on college students to make their academic process easier, but the existence of this technology also has a negative impact on college students. The availability of entertainment in the form of online games makes college students addicted to online games and disrupts their study focus. The aim of this research is to find out how college students who are addicted to online games behave and the impact felt by college students. This research uses a purposive sampling technique with the criteria of college students at Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta who play online games 20 to 25 hours a week. This research uses qualitative methods by conducting interviews with 5 college students who are addicted to online games. The findings of this research show that college students who are addicted to online games play games at least 4 days a week and play online games at most every day, they can play at least 3 times a day and the fastest time to play is 10 minutes at a time. And they play at most 7 times a day and spend a maximum of 6 hours at a time playing. College students who are addicted to online games experience social, academic, economic and emotional impacts. This research can be concluded that there are 1 college students who are addicted to online games in the low category, 1 person in the medium category, and 3 people in the high category. The impact caused by playing online games excessively is that students become less social with their surroundings, often put off work, don't focus in lectures, their GPA decreases, they become more wasteful, they become irritable, offended and they say harsh words.
