Abstract

This study focuses on categorizing the reasons of using code-mixing present in interactions on the Twitter account @tahilalats. Employing a qualitative descriptive method, it utilizes Kachru (1978/1983/1986) theory to analyze data from various tweets. The findings reveal four primary the reason of using code-mixing Foregrounding, Nativization, Hybridization, and Neutralization. The Foregrounding reason is bilingual speakers use mixed language to highlight specific meanings or capture attention in their communication, then the Nativization reason is term refers to the integration of foreign words or phrases into a local language, illustrating the evolution of languages through interaction, while the Hybridization is code-mixing allows speakers to enhance their vocabulary by blending elements from two languages, while hybridization creates new forms, often through slang, resulting in unique expressions, and the Neutralization occurs when speakers blend codes to lessen the linguistic gap between languages, facilitating smoother communication in multilingual settings. These results illustrate the dynamic nature of language in digital settings and demonstrate how social media users modify their communication to convey richer and more relevant meanings. This research offers valuable insights into language use in the context of globalization and digitalization, enhancing our understanding of social identity in online interactions.
