Abstract

This study has the following objectives: (1) To describe the structure of the monologue script, Are We Already Independent by Putu Wijaya; (2) To describe the social criticism contained in the monologue script, Are We Already Independent by Putu Wijaya; (3) To explain the relevance of the research results and their application in literature learning in high school. The research method used in this study is descriptive qualitative. The data collection technique uses the library study technique. The data used in this study are in the form of words, sentences, not numbers contained in the monologue script, Are We Already Independent by Putu Wijaya. The data analysis technique uses the reading of the semiotic model which has two levels, namely heuristic and hermeneutic. The data validity test in this study uses data triangulation. Based on the research results, the researcher concluded three things, namely (1) the structural analysis in the monologue script, Are We Already Independent by Putu Wijaya, is found in the theme and facts of the story which include the theme, plot, characters and characterization, setting. The theme in the monologue script, Are We Already Independent is about the struggle carried out by the grandfather figure in fighting for independence. The plot in this script is a mixed plot 2 that contains a forward plot and flashback. The settings contained in the monologue script Are We Already Independent are, the setting of place, setting of time and setting of atmosphere. (2) Social criticism in the monologue script Are We Already Independent is obtained from socioeconomic criticism, socio-political criticism, socio-legal criticism, socio-cultural criticism, social criticism of media and technology. (3) The criteria for literary teaching materials must include language, psychology, and the background of students. The implementation of the monologue script Are We Already Independent is in accordance with the competency standards for literature learning in high school.
