Abstract

This study explores the mediating role of career planning and development activities in shaping the influence of soft skills and job interest on career decisions among college students. As the labor market becomes increasingly competitive, it is crucial to understand the factors that drive successful career decision-making. Soft skills such as communication, adaptability, and teamwork are essential in enhancing an individual's ability to navigate career challenges. Additionally, job interest plays a significant role in guiding career choices by aligning personal preferences with professional aspirations. This research employs a quantitative approach, using surveys to gather data from students at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta, Indonesia. Results suggest that both soft skills and job interest significantly affect career planning and development activities, which in turn influence career decisions. However, the mediating role of career planning and development activities in the relationship between soft skills, job interest, and career decisions was not significant. The findings highlight the importance of integrating soft skill training and career development activities within educational curricula to better prepare students for the workforce, ultimately improving their career readiness and decision-making.
