Abstract

There is no doubt that gold is an instrument of savings or investment for all people, including the Muslim society. According to the studies and discussions of the scholars and fatwa councils, gold is one of the six ribawi goods. Therefore, there are special rules when dealing with gold, so that it becomes an object that is traded either in cash or on credit. This study analyzes the transaction patterns of selling and buying gold at the HF Gold company with a descriptive-analytical approach. This research is classified as qualitative research by mixing a combination of field research and library research. Data obtained directly from several people interviewed and integrated with a review of the books of scholars and scientific journals, especially those relating to the gold transaction system, terms, and conditions in Islamic Sharia. This research aims to explore the system of gold buying and selling transactions implemented in the HF Gold company, including finding out the challenges and opportunities in trading gold in Indonesia. The results showed that the system used by HF Gold is that the gold sale and purchase transaction must be Yadan Biyadin and Taqabudh, or directly handed over and in cash, which is not allowed through an installment or credit scheme. The main challenges that exist in our society that prevent saving and investing in gold include impulsive behavior in the form of wasteful purchases, inflation, usury debt, and transaction problems. While the big opportunity, according to HF Gold, is the importance of educating the community about the law of buying and selling gold and a new breakthrough in gold transactions by using COD (cash on delivery), which is flexible and without speculation, usury, and the others.
