Abstract

Film has become one of the most influential mass media in society. The messages contained in the film help the audience to represent reality. Film as a media of representation has gone through modifications taken from reality so that a message of family love is constructed. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative with Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis techniques. The sampling technique used in this research was purposive sampling technique and the data collection techniques used were observation, documentation and literature study. Meanwhile, for data validity, researcher used source triangulation techniques. The aim of this research is to represent family love in the film Pawn. The results of this research are that family affection in films covers all categories of the concept of affection according to Prayitno, namely positive feelings, fulfilling needs, making efforts to make people happy, providing opportunities, and self-control. The representation of family love in the film Pawn successfully constructs a message of love through audio-visual elements, dialogue, and camera angles/types of shots. This shows that the reality in films is a media construction that has been modified from real reality.
