Abstract

Riau Province is one of the regions in Indonesia that serves as a center for Malay culture. However, rapid globalization has led to a decline in interest in preserving this cultural heritage. Proper efforts are needed to ensure Malay culture does not fade further. As the capital city, Pekanbaru holds great potential for cultural preservation. It is also home to Taman Budaya Riau, a cultural center that can play a crucial role in safeguarding Malay traditions. However, many of its facilities are deteriorating and require urgent restoration. Redesigning Taman Budaya Riau using a Neo-Vernacular architectural approach can help revitalize the space. This approach incorporates both physical and non-physical elements of local culture, such as reorganizing buildings based on traditional Riau Malay house layouts. The redesign will not only meet functional needs but also promote cultural preservation. The exterior design will be inspired by traditional Riau Malay houses, ensuring the building serves as a cultural landmark. Through this approach, Taman Budaya Riau can remain a relevant and visually representative space for sustaining Riau Malay heritage.
