Abstract
This research aims to examine the meaning of color symbols in the Qur'an, with a study of Buya Hamka's Al-Azhar commentary. The main focus of the research is to explore the symbolic meaning of the colors mentioned in the Qur'an, namely red, yellow, white, green, blue, and black. However, understanding the meaning of color symbols in the Qur'an still rarely gets in-depth attention, especially in the context of Buya Hamka's Al-Azhar commentary. Therefore, this study was conducted to examine the meaning of color symbols based on Buya Hamka's perspective in Tafsir Al-Azhar, which is known to have a contextual approach and is relevant to the times. The approach used in this study is a qualitative method with the type of library research and analyzed through content analysis techniques. The results showed that each color in the Qur'an has a variety of deep symbolic meanings depending on the context of each verse. The color red is interpreted as beauty, strength and destruction, yellow is often interpreted as the color of fire and the transience of the world, white is often interpreted as purity and truth while green is often interpreted as heaven and eternal pleasure, blue is interpreted as the state of the disobedient, and black is often interpreted as destruction. The color symbols in the Qur'an have deep symbolic meanings, which illustrate the power and greatness of Allah Swt. Each color is used to indicate various important things in human life. Understanding the meaning of color symbols not only strengthens faith, but also opens up insights into how the Qur'an provides life guidance in a deep and relevant way. This study makes a new contribution to the development of tafsir science, especially in exploring the meaning of color symbols in the Qur'an.
