Abstract

The Qur'an is a source of knowledge and a guide to life for people worldwide. Therefore, it is important to foster students' interest in reading it. Reading the Qur'an is an implementation of faith in the Book of Allah, which is the foundation of faith for Muslims and can also affect one's character. Islamic Education teachers at SMP Negeri 1 Kerjo have made various efforts to foster students' interest in reading the Qur'an. This study aims to describe these efforts and identify the supporting and inhibiting factors are faced by Islamic Religious Education teachers in the implementation process. This type of research is qualitative field research using a phenomenological approach. The data sources used are primary and secondary data sources. The data collection techniques used include observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis used is qualitative. Based on the results of the analysis, it can be concluded that there are several efforts of Islamic Religious Education teachers at SMP Negeri 1 Kerjo in fostering students' interest in reading the Qur'an, including: maximizing guidance and teaching, providing motivation and rewards, and additionally through extracurricular activities. Supporting factors for Islamic Religious Education teachers in carrying out their efforts are: the ability of Islamic Religious Education teachers, adequate infrastructure, and support from the principal and school community. The inhibiting factors are: limited Islamic Religious Education teachers at school, student laziness, student discipline, & family and community environment. To overcome these obstacles, Islamic Religious Education teachers provide motivation, varied methods, and build good coordination with teachers and parents.
