Abstract

In line with the increasing demand for concrete in the Indonesian construction industry which is quite rapid, this study focuses on the potential benefits of mixing steel slag and fly ash in concrete mixtures which are expected to improve material properties while reducing environmental impacts. This study aims to explore the utilization of steel slag and fly ash waste in making concrete, this innovation is to replace some of the fine aggregate with steel slag and replace some of the cement with fly ash. In this study, concrete with a composition of steel slag substitution (0%, 5%, 8%, 10%, 12%) and fly ash (12%) was tested for its mechanical properties. Experiments were conducted to measure compressive strength, flexural strength and absorption with a soaking period of 28 days. The results showed that the use of steel slag as a partial substitute for fine aggregate and fly ash as a partial substitute for cement showed an increase in each percentage. These results can be concluded that the addition of steel slag and fly ash can be used as a concrete mixture.
