Abstract

To reduce maternal mortality, it is very important for every pregnant woman to have easy and affordable access to quality prenatal health services, including regular health checks, fetal growth monitoring, early detection of pregnancy complications, and provision of appropriate health education. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the level of effectiveness of the prenatal education program on increasing knowledge and changing health behavior to a better level in pregnant women at the Pajang Health Center. This type of research is quantitative and the research design is a quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test. This study has 2 groups, namely the first group received education (intervention group) and the second group did not receive education (control group). Provision of prenatal education to pregnant women through health education using poster media and KIA books. The results showed that the prenatal education program provided was effective in improving the knowledge and health behavior of pregnant women. This is evidenced by the significant difference between the pre-test and post-test values in the group given education for the knowledge and behavior variables. Provision of prenatal education to pregnant women through counseling with poster media and KIA books However, no significant difference was found in the group that was not given education. Although it was found that increased knowledge can influence behavioral change however, stronger evidence is needed to say that knowledge directly causes behavioral change. Further and more in-depth research is needed to explore the various factors that may influence changes in maternal health knowledge and behavior. In addition, it is important to conduct research using various media to evaluate whether there are differences in the effectiveness of prenatal education based on the type of media and methods used.
