Abstract

The use of lightweight metal alloys such as aluminum is very common in various industries, especially in the automotive and aerospace industries. This widespread presence is due to the advantageous characteristics of aluminum, such as its resistance to the environment, high flexibility, and good strength-to-weight ratio. The aviation industry, for example, uses aluminum in large quantities, reaching up to 90%. The purpose of this research is to determine the results of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of aluminum 6061 after treatment using decorative carbon with nickel particles. The Scanning Electron Microscopy test was conducted using the ASTM E986 standard. The results of the scanning electron microscopy (SEM) test at 2 hours showed a decrease in carbon content and an increase in aluminum content, while the nickel content decreased. At the 3-hour mark, there was a decrease in carbon content and an increase in aluminum content, while nickel content decreased. The highest nickel content was found in the specimen with a 3-hour treatment time in the side area after washing, with a weight of 0.062%, while the lowest nickel content was found in the specimen with a 2-hour treatment time in the side area after washing, with a weight of 0.031%.
