Abstract

Product quality is a major factor in competition between companies, so continuous quality control is needed to maintain quality and reduce defective products. PT. Sari Warna Asli Unit II received complaints about defective products, with an average defect rate reaching 17% of total production in 2023. The purpose of this study is to analyze the causes of defects in gray fabric products, identify and analyze the quality control applied, and assist in providing alternative solutions that can overcome the factors causing defects. The methods used include initial process analysis through the Supplier, Input, Process, Output, Customer (SIPOC) Diagram for in-depth understanding, followed by the Pareto Diagram to identify Critical to Quality (CTQ) factors. The calculation of Defects Per Million Opportunities (DPMO) shows an average of 24,733.59 or equivalent to a Sigma Level of 3.47. For further analysis, P Control Chart and Fishbone Diagram were used to identify the root causes of defects, such as tight/loose, loose feed, baar, reed mark, and temple mark, which are related to human, process, and environmental factors. Recommendations for improvement in this study include the application of Kaizen principles and Poka Yoke methods as an effort to prevent errors, as well as ensuring material quality during machine adjustment as an important step to reduce the defect rate. The results of this study are expected to improve product quality and reduce the factors that cause defects at PT. Sari Warna Asli Unit II.
