Abstract
Investment Casting is one of the metal casting methods with a high level of precision, one of the things that affects the success of making casting products with investment casting is the inlet on the descending channel. Investment casting itself is one of the metal casting methods using wax and gypsum as casting media. The aim of this research is to find out the location of a good inlet channel for casting products regarding shrinkage, density¸ hardness, chemical composition and microstructure using the investment casting method. This time, investment casting uses a variety of inlet channels of 0 mm, 20 mm and 40 mm. The results of testing the chemical composition of the product found that there was (Al) 97.18% as the most dominant element, (Si) 0.735%, (Mg) 0.777%, (Mn) 0.288% and (Cu) 0.287%, so it was categorized as aluminum magnesium alloy. -silicon (Al-Mg-Si). The shrinkage test results show the lowest shrinkage at an inlet depth of 0 mm of 2.07%. The density test results obtained the highest density value at an inlet depth of 0 mm 3.04 gr/cm3. The results of microstructure observations show that the inlet depth of 0 mm has grains that are more spread out than the inlet depths of 20 mm and 40 mm. The Vickers hardness test results show the highest hardness at an inlet depth of 0 mm, namely 84.43 VHN. The maximum depth of the inlet at the down channel will affect the flow rate and metal freezing. The faster the liquid metal fills the mold, the faster the liquid metal will freeze.
