Abstract
K-Pop, or Korean Pop, is a popular term for South Korean pop music culture. Video music with themes, concepts, and settings that vary according to the content of the song is not separate from K-Pop. Loona is one of the K-Pop bands that has released 27 music videos since 2016 for pre-debut projects and three music videos since their debut in 2018. One of Loona’s music videos, titled Butterfly, shows the diversity of women from different backgrounds. Butterfly’s music video has a unique concept and message that Loona wants to convey to its listeners. Loonna wants her listener to gain courage, find oneself, and raise one's voice. The study uses Roland Barthes’s theory of semiotics to examine the various aspects of Loona-Butterfly music videos lasting 4:35 minutes as objects. This research uses qualitative methods because the data are statements. Purposive sampling techniques are selected by researchers for the selection of samples, and non-participant observations are the techniques selected for data collection. For data analysis techniques, after the observation of the music video Loona: Butterfly, the data will be reviewed, edited, and polished. Interpretation of data using semiotic analysis techniques by Roland Barthes Data validity levels use source triangulation to test the validity of research data. The study aims to look at the representation of women in the music video Loona: Butterfly and how freedom and courage are linked to the representations of women present in this music video.
