Abstract

Traditional medicine in Surakarta is closely related to the existence of the Kasunanan and Mangkunegaran Palace, where traditional medicine was initially used by kings and nobles and then over time spread to the community. Traditional medicine is commonly found in the Pasar Gedhe area. This area not only has an important role in the preserva-tion of traditional Javanese medicine but also in traditional Chinese medicine because of its location in the Chinatown area. Traditional medicine sold in the Pasar Gedhe China-town area has ingredients that have been passed down from generation to generation and contain historical value in it. Therefore, Pasar Gedhe Chinatown has a share in the preservation of traditional medicine, and for that reason Pasar Gedhe Chinatown has great potential as awellness destination based on local wisdom. So in order to optimize this potential, this design aims to develop a traditional treatment center with a therapeutic architecture approach. The therapeutic architecture approach combines an understanding of human interaction with the physical and psychological environment to create a space that supports the healing process and user well-being.
