Abstract

The large number of negative assessments that occur, including among students, one of which is among Psychology students at Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta, can make some students have to be able to have a positive level of self-confidence in order to continue to develop themselves positively. In order for Psychology students at Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta to have a positive level of self-confidence, social support is needed to show concern for the behavior of evaluating negative sentences. The purpose of this study was to test the relationship between social support and self-concept with self-confidence. This study used a quantitative correlational method. The sample used was a random sampling technique and 151 students of the UMS Faculty of Psychology were obtained. The research instruments were a scale of social support, a scale of self-concept, and a scale of self-confidence. The results of data analysis with multiple regression analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between social support and self-concept with self-confidence (R = 0.752: F = 224.818; p = 0.000; p ˂ 0.01) this proves that the major hypothesis in this study is accepted. There is a significant positive relationship between social support and self-confidence (r = 0.805; p = 0.000; p = <0.01), so the first minor hypothesis is accepted. There is a significant positive relationship between self-concept and self-confidence (r = 0.808; p = 0.000; p = <0.01) so the second hypothesis is accepted. The effective contribution to the two independent variables simultaneously is 70.15%, and partially social support has an influence of 34.74% while self-concept is 35.41% with self-confidence, and 29.85% is influenced by other factors. The social support variable has a high categorization, the self-concept variable has a high categorization, and the self-confidence variable has a moderate categorization.
