Abstract

Changes in land use, especially the conversion of rice fields to non-rice fields, are a common phenomenon in urban buffer areas. Mojolaban District, located in Sukoharjo Regency, is experiencing significant urbanization growth between 2017 and 2024. This has implications for the area of agricultural land, especially rice fields, which is important for local food security. This research aims to analyze the distribution and changes in rice fields in Mojolaban District from 2017 to 2024. By analyzing land use data, it is hoped that it can provide an overview of the impact of land conversion on agriculture and food security in the area. The method used in this research is quantitative descriptive with a Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing approach using Sentinel-2 image data. Secondary data was obtained from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) for comparison of rice field areas in 2017 and 2024. Data analysis was carried out using the Maximum Likelihood algorithm for land use classification. The research results show that the area of rice fields in Mojolaban District has decreased from 2,203 hectares (Ha) in 2017 to 1,950 Ha in 2024, with a decrease of 253 Ha. Meanwhile, the building area increased from 1,592 Ha to 1,858 Ha. This change reflects urbanization trends which have an impact on reducing productive agricultural land. The river area has also decreased, from 24 Ha to 13 Ha, which has the potential to affect agricultural irrigation systems.
