Abstract

This research aims to obtain a depiction of gratitude among adolescents with single parents. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach and purposive sampling technique, resulting in 3 adolescent informants aged 14-22 years. Data collection was conducted through interviews, observations, and documentation. The data analysis used is based on Creswell's theory. The results show that the informants feel grateful to have single parents. They expressed that the support provided by their single parent was sufficient to meet their daily needs and create enjoyable interactions. Furthermore, this study found that self-acceptance and perceived social support among grateful individuals tend to be high. Gratitude plays an important role in encouraging individuals to help each other and foster empathy. Teenagers with single parents also show better abilities in coping with stress and life's challenges, thanks to the gratitude they possess. This study shows that gratitude can help teenagers overcome sadness and accept their circumstances, thereby enhancing positive self-acceptance. Overall, this study highlights the importance of gratitude in enhancing the subjective well-being of adolescents with single parents, as well as providing new insights into how adolescents can develop emotional maturity through difficult life experiences.
