Abstract

Early adulthood, with an age range of 18-25 years, is a transition phase from adolescence to adulthood in which individuals undergo major changes in various aspects such as physical, social, and psychological. In this phase, many people begin to pay attention to the appearance of the body to look ideal. Although a slim body is often desired, many are overweight or obese, which can affect their subjective well-being. This subjective well-being is influenced by gratitude and self-acceptance. This study aims to test the relationship between gratitude and self-acceptance and subjective well-being in early adulthood who are overweight using a correlational quantitative approach, the study involved 110 respondents aged 18-25 years who were taken using an accidental sampling technique to individuals who had overweight criteria. Data was collected through a Google Form questionnaire, which consisted of four scales: SWLS, PANAS, GQ-6, and Self-Acceptance Scale. The results of multiple regression analysis showed an R value of 0.677, an F value of 45.340, and a significance of 0.000 (p < 0.01). In addition, the Pearson correlation test showed a positive and significant relationship between gratitude and subjective well-being (r= 0.661, p < 0.01); There was a positive and significant relationship between self-acceptance and subjective well-being (R= 0.478 P < 0.01). These results support the hypothesis that gratitude and self-acceptance are related to subjective well-being in early overweight adults. Effective contribution of gratitude and self-acceptance to subjective well-being was 45.9%.
