Abstract
Land cover change in Grobogan Regency is influenced by the increasing population growth from 2019 to 2021. Population growth causes land cover changes that have implications for increasing greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to global warming. The purpose of this study was to analyze land cover change and carbon stock within the period of 2013 and 2023 in Grobogan Regency. The method used to analyze land cover change is overlaying this data obtained from the processing of Landsat 8 satellite images with the guided classification method and the method to determine the amount of carbon stock is the ICLEI method by multiplying the area of each cover by the carbon emission constant. The results showed a decrease in the area of land cover including plantation forests reduced by 12,294.68 ha and rice fields 7,695.74 ha, while land cover that experienced an increase including dry land agriculture increased by 14,024.1 ha and built-up land 5,966.32 ha. Carbon stocks increased in dry land agricultural land cover which increased by 140,241 tons C, and decreased in plantation forests by 786,859.52 tons C and rice fields by 15,391.48 tons C. The conversion of plantation forests to dry land agriculture contributed the most to the decrease in carbon stocks with a decrease in carbon stocks reaching 663,912.93 tons C.
