Abstract
Population growth that is difficult to control causes the availability of land for settlements to decrease and will eventually affect the quality of the environment, especially settlements. Poor quality settlements can be the beginning of various health problems, such as diarrhea. Re-examination of several environmental parameters such as settlement density, sanitation, waste disposal sites, and water channels is carried out in order to realize good settlement quality and a healthy environment to reduce the number of diarrhea cases in Pasar Kliwon District. This study aims to analyze 1) the condition and distribution of the quality of the settlement environment, 2) the distribution of diarrhea cases, and 3) the relationship between the quality of the settlement environment and diarrhea cases in Pasar Kliwon District. The research method for the first objective is image interpretation on Google Earth and surveys, for the second objective is a survey, and for the third objective is to use correlation. Spearman rank correlation testing is carried out to determine the level of closeness of the relationship between the quality of the settlement environment and diarrhea cases. The results of the study showed that the distribution of good environmental quality classification of settlements was 27.94% covering an area of 85.73 ha with 60 blocks with a dispersed pattern. The distribution of moderate environmental quality classification of settlements was 62.20% covering an area of 190.87 ha with 166 blocks with a clustered pattern. The distribution of poor environmental quality classification of settlements was 9.85% covering an area of 30.24 ha with 25 blocks with a dispersed pattern. The number of diarrhea cases in Pasar Kliwon District in 2022 reached 880 cases and was spread across all sub-districts. The highest number of cases was in Semanggi Village with 299 cases, followed by Mojo Village with 205 cases, and Sangkrah Village with 162 cases. The high number of diarrhea cases in Pasar Kliwon District is related to its geographical location which is directly adjacent to the river. During the rainy season, river flow will carry more waste and pathogenic bacteria which can increase the risk of diarrhea. In addition, community behavior such as the habit of not washing hands before and after doing activities is also another factor that can trigger diarrhea cases. The correlation results on both variables show that there is a significant relationship between the quality of the residential environment and the number of diarrhea cases. The level of closeness of the relationship shows that there is a very strong relationship between the two variables.
