Abstract
Tobacco is an important commodity in the Indonesian economy, especially in the agricultural sector and cigarette industry. Pulokulon District, Grobogan Regency, has great potential as a tobacco producing area, but not all land is used optimally. This research aims to analyze land suitability for tobacco cultivation in Pulokulon District and identify limiting factors that influence productivity. The method used is a Geographic Information System (GIS) approach with a land suitability evaluation method based on FAO standards. Sampling was carried out using the cluster random sampling method, where the land is divided into several homogeneous clusters based on topography, soil type and climate. Primary and secondary data are collected, then scoring is carried out on parameters that influence land suitability. The analysis was carried out using the overlay method to produce a land suitability map, as well as frequency table analysis to determine the most influential factors. The research results show that of the total land area in Pulokulon District, 46,117 hectares are very suitable, 254,276 hectares are suitable, 731,454 hectares are less suitable, and 367,421 hectares are not suitable for tobacco cultivation. The factors that most influence land suitability are soil type and slope slope. Very suitable land can produce tobacco production of 1.5-2 tons/ha, while less suitable land produces less than 1 ton/ha. This research provides recommendations for optimizing appropriate land use as well as improving efforts on less suitable land to increase tobacco productivity in Pulokulon District.
