Abstract

Global warming is a form of ecosystem imbalance on earth which is a problem for people all over the world. The impact of these problems greatly affects human life. Without realizing it, most of the causes are from human activities themselves such as burning fossil fuels and deforestation and forest burning which results in increased carbon in the air. There is a need for public awareness regarding actions to reduce carbon emissions in the air so that the environment becomes better and overcomes the problem of global warming. In order for the community to be more aware in responding to this problem, it is necessary to conduct research on the level of carbon sequestration in an area. The purpose of this research: (1) Distinguishing the ability of carbon sequestration in each area in the Bengawan Solo Hulu watershed ecosystem based on temporal variations and (2) Analyzing the spatial variation of carbon sequestration capability in ecosystems in the Upper Solo River Basin. The assessment of carbon sequestration value in the Bengawan Solo Hulu watershed in this study uses the Net Primary Production (NPP) estimation method through a combination of processing Landat 8 image data in 2020 and climate data. The results showed that (1) Each region has the same pattern of carbon sequestration, namely January is the month with the highest carbon absorption during 2020, then experienced a significant decrease from March to April, entering September carbon absorption increased again until December, (2) the spatial variation of the ability of carbon sequestration in the Bengawan Solo Hulu watershed in rural areas is of 726.78 gC/m2/year, peri-urban area of 439.29 gC/m2/year and urban area of 172.55 gC/m2/year., and (3) Factors that affect the ability of carbon sequestration in the Bengawan Solo Hulu watershed ecosystem is the type of landuse.
