Abstract
Students working on their theses often face increasingly challenging requirements and tasks, which can lead to academic stress. Various factors can influence academic stress, such as resilience and self-efficacy. This research was conducted using a quantitative method involving 100 students who are currently working on their theses at the Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta. The aim of this study is to examine the potential correlation between resilience and self-efficacy with the academic stress experienced by students working on their theses. The major hypothesis of this research is that there is a relationship between resilience and self-efficacy with academic stress. The minor hypotheses in this research are that there is a negative relationship between resilience and academic stress, and a positive relationship between self-efficacy and academic stress. The instruments used in this research are the resilience scale, the self-efficacy scale, and the academic stress scale. Participants were selected using purposive sampling with the criterion being students currently working on their theses. The results showed a very significant relationship between the variables of resilience and self-efficacy with the variable of academic stress (R = 0.544 with sig = 0.000 (P<0.01)). There is a very significant negative relationship between resilience and students' academic stress (r = -0.458; p = 0.000; p < 0.01). There is also a very significant negative relationship between self-efficacy and academic stress in students (r = -0.503; p = 0.000; p < 0.01). The effective contribution of the variables resilience and self-efficacy to the academic stress variable shows a percentage of 29.6%, with resilience contributing 11.59% and self-efficacy contributing 18.01%. The remaining percentage is influenced by other factors not examined in this study.
