Abstract
Brick is one of the building materials used in making building walls. Various methods are used to improve the quality of the bricks, including by using organic burning ash additives. Ash from burning organic materials is easy to find in the surrounding environment and is relatively cheap. In this research, a summary of three previous studies was carried out regarding the water absorption capacity and compressive strength of bricks using different additives, namely water hyacinth ash, palm fiber ash, and rubber seed shell ash with variations of 0%, 5%, 10%. %, and 15%. The composition of the mixture of ash, cement and sand in the water absorption and compressive strength tests has met SNI 03-0348-1989 standards. From the results of research that has been carried out, the water absorption test results for all variations of the ash mixture are included in quality I (Balitbang Kimpraswl, 2003b). Meanwhile, the compressive strength test results show that palm fiber ash can improve the quality of bricks at an ash content of 5%, namely 64.24 Kg/cm2.
