Abstract

Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) is a condition of malnutrition that occurs when the food intake consumed is less than required and lasts for a long time (chronic) which causes health problems. The prevalence of CED in women of childbearing age in Central Java reaches 22,5%. One of the direct causes of this nutritional problem is inadequate food intake. This aim of the research was to determine the correlation between energy and protein intake and the incident of CED in women of fertilizing age in Polanharjo District, Klaten Regency. The research was conducted observationally using the cross sectional method. The research sample was 51 women of childbearing age in Polanharjo District who were randomly selected. Energy and protein intake data was obtained from interviews using the 24-Hours Food Recall form for three days and processed using Nutrisurvey software. CED data was obtained from upper arm circumference measurements using the metline tape and LILA tape. Test the correlation using the Rank Spearman test. Most of the energy consumption levels are in the less category (88,2%) and the protein consumption levels are in the less category (62,7%). Distribution of the incidence of CED in women of childbearing age in Polanharjo District who are categorized as CED (25,5%) and those who do not experience CED (74,5%). The test results of the correlation between energy and protein intake ante the incidence of CED showed a value of p=0,606 and p=0,552. There was no correlation between energy and protein intake and the incident of CED in women of childbearing age.
