Abstract

Quality of life is one of the important components in assessing the welfare status of People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). HIV/AIDS not only affects heterosexual individuals but is also transmitted to individuals with homosexual orientations. The aim of this study is to explore the experiences of homosexual PLWHA in interpreting their quality of life, as well as the dynamics of facing HIV/AIDS during the Covid-19 pandemic using a phenomenological approach. Interview transcripts were explored using the stages of Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis. Six homosexual PLWHA participants who took part in semi-structured interviews shared their life experiences related to quality of life. The results of the analysis show that participants perceive their quality of life to be fairly good, with four major themes emerging: Self-Perception After an HIV Diagnosis, Perception of Quality of Life, Access to Health Services, and Living Side by Side with HIV. The findings of the study highlight the importance of regularity and adherence to taking ARV medication, maintaining health through a healthy lifestyle, and regular consultations with healthcare professionals.
