Abstract

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), inparticular, can be one of the ways to address economic crises. FDI can stimulate economic activities and national income. This research aims to estimate the influence of the Human Development Index (HDI), economic growth, trade openness, government spending, and corruption index on FDI in 8 ASEAN countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, and Vietnam) from 2012 to 2022 using panel data regression estimates. The results from the selected model, Fixed Effects, indicate that economic growth and government spending in each country positively influence the inflow of FDI. Meanwhile, HDI, trade openness, and the corruption index do not affect the FDI inflow. Based on these results, it is hoped that the governments of each country will pay attention to the allocation of funds in their government spending. With efficient management, infrastructure development will undoubtedly proceed optimally, enhancing economic infrastructure and, consequently, boosting economic growth and attracting foreign investors to invest their capital.
