Abstract

This study aims to describe the form of using switch codes and mix codes in the interaction of buying and selling street vendors in the UMS area. This research is a type of qualitative descriptive research. The data ofthisresearch isin the formofspeech containing switch codes and mix codes spoken by traders and buyers along the Garuda Mas road which is the main road of campus 1, campus 2, and campus 4 UMS. The data collection techniques in this study use recording techniques, listening techniques, note techniques, then continued with observation techniques and interviews with speakers and documentation techniques. Data analysis was carried out by the method of matching translational types with a determinant tool, namely the speech organ, then the presentation of the results of data analysis of this study used an informal presentation method. The results of this study are three. (1) Switch code Indonesian to Javanese, (2) Switch code Indonesian to Sundanese, (3) Switch code Javanese to Indonesian. Meanwhile, the mix code that occurs in the speech is the Inner Code-Mixing which uses Javanese mixed with Indonesian.
