Abstract

The phenomenon of increasing urban areas in a region indicates that the location is experiencing regional development. Urban areas are areas with dynamic land cover development because they are the center of activities for various regional sectors. The Magelang urban area is one of the areas that can see this development phenomenon. Land cover must be monitored regularly to ensure proper regional development planning. One method that can be used is to model future land cover changes to get a complete picture of the changes. Therefore, this study aims to: 1) Analyze changes in built-up land cover in 2000, 2013 and 2023 in Magelang City, 2) Make predictions of land cover changes in Magelang City in 2031 using the CA-Markov model, 3) Evaluate the suitability of changes in built-up and non-built-up land cover predictions in 2031 to the Magelang City RTRW. In the 2000 Landsat 5 imagery and the 2013 and 2023 Landsat 8 OLI/TIRS images, land cover was classified using the Support Vector Machine (SVM) classification method and validated using overall accuracy. The results of this study are: 1) Built-up land cover in 2000 was 8.49 km². In this year, built-up land cover is less than non-built-up land cover with an area of 9.36 km². Until 2013, built-up land cover increased to 9.20 km² and in 2023, the area increased again to 10.58 km². 2) Built-up land cover is predicted to increase in area by 1.58 km² in 2031 and non-built-up land cover will shrink by 1.58 km². The predicted results for 2031 are built-up land cover of 12.17 km² and non-built-up land cover of 5.69 km². 3) Modeling of land cover prediction in 2031 compared to the spatial pattern of Magelang City RTRW in 2011-2031 resulted in a level of suitability of 12.05 km² or reaching 67.46% in accordance with the direction and 5.81 km² or 32.54% did not comply with the direction of spatial pattern utilization.
