Abstract

The female labor force participation rate is a significant and complex issue that encompasses various social, economic, and cultural dimensions, particularly in the ASEAN region. This study aims to estimate the influence of female wages, female life expectancy, female political participation, and female fertility rates on the female labor force participation rate in ASEAN-5 countries during 2011-2022 using panel data regression with a Fixed Effects Model (FEM) approach. The findings indicate that female wages and fertility rates have a negative impact on the female labor force participation rate, whereas female life expectancy and political participation positively affect the female labor force participation rate. Therefore, policies to enhance female labor force participation may include improving access to and the quality of education and vocational training, strengthening reproductive health programs to reduce fertility rates, and supporting women’s involvement in politics. Governments should also develop policies to reduce wage disparities between men and women, ensuring that such disparities do not hinder female participation in the labor force.
