Abstract

Background: Willingness to vaccinate against HPV in adolescent girls is still low, causing an increase in the number of cervical cancer cases in Indonesia, which can become a major threat to world health. The majority of cervical cancer sufferers are only detected when they are in an advanced stage. The Faculty of Health Sciences, Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta (UMS) fifth semester class of 2020, stated that there is no information on preventing cervical cancer with HPV vaccination in the campus environment, either through print media or social media. However, Public Health Study Program students can independently search for information about cervical cancer and the HPV vaccine. The aim of this research was to determine the relationship between knowledge and perception about cervical cancer and HPV vaccine behavior in prevention efforts among UMS Health students. Method: This type of analytical observational research uses a cross-sectional study approach. The research sample calculation was assisted by the OpenEpi application and a research sample of 500 female students was obtained, using the Accidental Sampling technique. Analysis uses Pearson correlation. Results: Knowledge about efforts to prevent cervical cancer among UMS health students was in the good category, 430 people (75%). Perceptions about efforts to prevent cervical cancer among UMS health students were in the good category as many as 481 people (96.2%). Cervical cancer prevention behavior among UMS Health students was mostly good, 391 people (78.2%) and 109 people (21.8%) not good. There is a relationship between knowledge of cervical cancer and behavior of the HPV vaccine in prevention efforts among UMS health students. There is a no relationship between perceptions of cervical cancer and behavior of the HPV vaccine in prevention efforts among UMS Health students. Suggestion: UMS Health Students are expected to know the meaning, causes, how to detect, symptoms, risk factors for cervical cancer, as well as efforts to prevent cervical cancer and inject the HPV vaccine to prevent cervical cancer
