Abstract

Poverty is a development problem that can occur anywhere, both in developed and developing countries. As a developing country, poverty is one of the major issues in the Indonesian economy, as if it were "homework" that has not been completed. This study aims to estimate the direction and magnitude of the influence of the gap in Average Years of Schooling (RLS) and Life Expectancy (AHH) based on gender on the gap in employment opportunities based on gender, and the influence of the gap in employment opportunities based on gender on the percentage of the poor population in Indonesia in 2017-2021 with panel data regression through the Random Effects Model (REM) approach and the application of the chain rule method. The results of this study indicate that the gap in life expectancy has a significant negative effect on the gap in employment opportunities. Furthermore, the gap in employment opportunities has a significant negative effect on poverty, so that the chain rule is proven. Meanwhile, the gap in average years of schooling does not affect the gap in employment opportunities, so that the chain rule is not proven. The government is expected to increase the productivity of the workforce in various sectors by providing skills training for the workforce and expanding employment opportunities.
