Abstract

The fish market around Gajah Mungkur Reservoir has significant potential to be developed as an ecology-based ecotourism destination. Developing this ecotourism potential at the fish market could provide substantial benefits to the local community and the surrounding environment if approached ecologically. The aim of this research is to evaluate the ecotourism prospects of the fish market near Gajah Mungkur Reservoir and to formulate sustainable development strategies to achieve this. Literature review, field surveys, and interviews with relevant stakeholders were used in this study. Analysis results indicate that the Gajah Mungkur Reservoir area boasts exceptional biodiversity and that the fish market serves as a hub for local economic and cultural activities. To develop the ecotourism potential, strategies that balance ecological, social, and economic aspects are necessary. Proposed steps include developing tourism based on local wisdom, creating environmentally friendly infrastructure, sustainable fish resource management, and empowering the community to manage and utilize the ecotourism potential sustainably. The fish market at Gajah Mungkur Reservoir could serve as a successful example of ecology-based ecotourism development, generating sustainable environmental, economic, and social benefits for all stakeholders involved. This can be achieved through the implementation of appropriate strategies.
