Abstract
Indonesia faces significant challenges in addressing the increasing number of elderly citizens, which continues to rise significantly. The Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) has the highest percentage of elderly population in Indonesia, reaching 14.5% of the total population. Within this region, Sleman Regency has the largest number of elderly residents, totaling 156,835 people. This growing elderly population is also accompanied by various issues commonly faced by the elderly, such as loneliness, depression, and lack of social support. Senior living facilities are developed with the aim of addressing these issues by providing specialized housing for the elderly, offering comprehensive health, social, and recreational services. These facilities provide opportunities for the elderly to live independently, actively, and securely. The design of senior living facilities involves important parameters such as site design, architectural design, landscaping design, and sustainable design. These parameters are applied during the initial concept stage to ensure that the resulting buildings are truly elderly-friendly and can optimally meet their needs. It is hoped that senior living facilities will minimize the challenges faced by the elderly and significantly improve their quality of life, while also providing opportunities for them to remain active and engaged in social life.
